As a Lead Security Engineer you will provide subject matter expertise to support, review and certify the new, current and proposed technologies, designs, systems or services from an IT Security perspective and provide documented recommended controls and solutions.

Main responsibilities:
• Engage with and present to internal senior colleagues & stakeholders to articulate security position and reasoning. No external negotiating to be undertaken.
• Develop and review detailed technical designs.
• Evaluate, test and pilot new security tools.
• Work with other engineers at vendor companies learning and evaluating emerging technologies.
• Manage vendor relationships knowing due diligence goes beyond just the technology and engaging with the right business people to ensure Barclays fully leverages vendor relationships.
• Perform in-depth analysis of technical infrastructure and application designs with a view to making detailed security recommendations and solutioning.
• Develop detailed technical configuration documents, working closely with security architecture and standards group.
• Produce and detail new security solutions not necessarily previously publicly communicated or available, e.g. mobile security controls. Barclays works at the leading edge of technical innovation in the mobile & infrastructure space and the candidate would be expected to be a thought leader and expected to contribute as required.
• Work with security incident management team to know current security trends and risks.
• Support projects through security research and technical evaluations, reviews and design creation.
• Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Barclays Operational Risk Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Standards.

We expect you possess:

• Excellent practical & theoretical understanding of security strategies and technologies including secure global network design, remote computing, desktop and server hardening, Compliance Auditing, Secure Software Development, Software Auditing, Penetration Testing and Security Monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of information security frameworks and standards such as ISO17799/27001 and their implementation.
• Strong understanding of the security mechanisms associated with Windows or Unix operating systems, mobile platforms, switched networks, applications and databases.
• Extensive experience creating innovative solutions and responding to information security incidents a strong plus.
• Ability to discuss company’s position vis-à-vis security related trends and outline organizational implications.
• Experienced with consulting on security build guides, tools and configurations.
• Comprehensive grasp of emerging security technologies.
• Ability to work largely on own initiative but to have deliverables and recommendations constructively challenged by own line management functions and technical colleagues (these could be other Barclays colleagues or external; technical specialists).
• Knowledge in multiple information security technologies and their strengths and shortcomings.
• Experienced at implementing or managing risk management processes and tools.
• Strong understanding of vendor and contract management. Understanding of BITS FISAP (Financial Institution Shared Assessments Program) highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to develop top talent in a technical environment.
