Global Information Security (GIS) engages in a range of activities to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Barclays information assets and to assist Information Technology teams to deliver secure solutions to the business.

Security Risk is a team within GIS and is engaged by business units to provide security services for Build the Bank (BTB) or Run the Bank (RTB) functions. Security Risk acts as a “One Stop Shop” for other GIS security services.


A Lead Security Consultant performs a key function within the GIS security community & with our internal business clients and 3rd Party Suppliers. Successful candidates for the role will:

  • Drive Information Security requirements and solutions into Barclays change programmes and improve the consolidated security risk profiles for business areas.

  • Have an expert understanding of the organisations security policies and associated standards.

  • Be highly experienced with regard to the components and mechanisms making up the organisations IT security Architecture and the controls that they provide.  Is experienced in the concepts of corporate governance within an IT environment.

  • Use the above to undertake and lead where appropriate a variety of IT Security activities and other related activities which together aid in ensuring that the organisation’s assets and IT systems are appropriately protected against unauthorised activities including deliberate or accidental loss.

  • Own and enhance relationships with client stakeholders and program managers that define and demonstrate value in engagement with GIS Services that enable the business to operate within acceptable risk levels. Produce, present and put through proposals to senior business management to progress innovation in their area.

  • Lead the strategic development and innovation for new tools and processes related to improving the impact of GIS into the IT lifecycle.

  • Own GIS communications to key stakeholders in both Business and IT communities, ensuring technical details and security details are understood allowing senior leaders to make informed decisions regarding security control implementation and risk management

We expect you to possess:

  • Broad IT Security management expertise (7+ years) coupled with good understanding of financial services.

  • Good leadership, relationship management and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of the Barclays’ key lines of business, organisational structure and business objectives (or those of comparable financial services businesses).

  • Commercial mind-set.

  • Detailed understanding of the principles, practices, and techniques related to IT Security.

  • Understanding of the implications, to Barclays, of the laws and regulations associated with IT Security.

  • Knowledge of the role and services provided by Barclays Internal Audit.
